Overall, it is noticeable that in most of the world, the agricultural sector consumes the greatest percentage of water, while this figure for household use accounts for the smallest rate. In addition, the water consumption for industrial activities in North America and Europe makes up a considerable amount, whereas the other areas only use a tiny minority of water for this domain.
In both two developed regions, North America and Europe, household utilize a moderate percentage of water between 13 percent and 15 percent. Besides, over one third of water use also belongs to farming and cattle; in detail, North America use nearly 40 percent and European countries consume 32 percent for this objective. In contrast, industrial sector in North America makes up nearly half of water expenditure which is five percent lower than one in Europe.
However, agricultural productions in four developing regions such as South America, Africa, Central and Southeast Asia make up a majority of water consumption, particularly, the highest percentage belongs to Central Asia with 88 percent. In general, Asian countries spend about seven percent of water on the domestic sector, compared with nearly one fifth of water consumption in South America. Water for industrial production in these countries only represents from five to twelve percent.
