The pie charts compare the percentage of students being able to speak foreign languages in a university of England in the years 2000 and 2010.
It is clear that the overall ability of speaking foreign languages of the students increased considerably from 2000 to 2010. While a fifth of those students were not able to speak any languages without English in 2000, a clear majority of students were fluent in at least one foreign language in 2010.
Looking at the three languages namely French, German and Spanish first, while their total percentage accounted for a massive of more than a half of popularity, remaining unchanged over a period of 10 years, French was witnessed to have a slight decrease of 5%, from 15% down to 10% and the opposite trend can be seen when we look at Spanish. Meanwhile, German was still stable at 10% through the given time.
With regard to the remaining proportion of the pie charts, the percentage of students, who can speak another language and two other languages, particularly had the same upward trend of 5%, from 15% to 20% and from 10% to 15%, respectively. Finally, a fall in the percentage of students who can not speak any foreign languages reflected the fact that English education had been effectively progressing.
