The charts below show the proportions of British students in a university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English in 2000 and 2010
no other language: 30 - 35
French only: 15- 10
German only: 10- 10
Spanish only: 20-10
Another language: 15-20
Two other languages: 10-15

The pie charts give data on the percentages of British students at the same university picking up foreign languages in the years 2000 and 2010. Overall, it can be clearly seen that at both times, the amount of students who were not able to speak any languages other than their mother tongue was the greatest; when Spanish, French and German were the three most popular languages to be chosen.
Looking at the data for year 2000, it is apparent that students with no foreign language ability constituted the largest proportion, with 30%, 5% higher than the figure for Spanish speakers and doubled the amount of students who speak French, which was exactly 15%. Only a small number of students could speak German as a second language, at 10%; and the same figure was recorded for students who can speak two languages, not considering English. Nearly one fourth of the total students were able to speak another foreign language that is not French, Spanish or German.
As for year 2010, the number of students who did not speak foreign languages remained the greatest, at 35%, 5% higher than that of the year 2000. Spanish, French and German still stood out from other language, being the most popular languages spoken with the exact same amount for each category, at 10%. However, the number of Spanish speakers at that school decreased by a half and the proportion of students speaking French also fell by 5% when comparing to those figures in year 2000. Meanwhile, the proportions of students speaking another foreign language and those who speak two languages apart from their mother tongue both expanded by 5%, from 15% of the former and !0% of the latter to 20% and 15%, respectively.
