Overall, non-renewable energy such as oil, coal, and gas accounted for a dominant proportion over the period. Meanwhile, nuclear power and other unlimited energy sources were not commonly used.

Regarding the energy consumption in 2000, the percentage of oil was the largest in both 2 countries, at 28% in the UK and 36% in the USA, followed by that of coal, at 29% and 34%. The figure for gas used was equal to half of the oil, about 20%, and 13% respectively in the UK and the USA. The two smallest proportions belonged to nuclear power and other renewable sources, lower than 15% in both two countries.

When it comes to 2006, there was a slight increase in the percentage of oil consumption, to 30% and 40% in the UK and the USA. Similarly, the figure for gas witnessed significant growth, accounting for 38% in the UK and 25 % in the USA. Due to these increases, the other energy was less commonly used in 2006 than in the past.
