The pie charts give the information about the household expenditure on seven items in American in the years 1966 and 1996.
It is clearly seen that food and cars counts for a major part in US spending patterns in both years, although the expenditure on food saw a dramatic decrease by 1996. Also, more American citizens tent to spent their money on computers and restaurants.
In 1966, 44% of an American household budget went to food, which was the largest proportion comparing to other categories. Over the following 30 years, however, the percentage of money American family spent on food fell by 30%, whereas the figure on cars saw a sharp rise of 22%. In both years, furniture costs and petrol costs took roughly 9% and 8% of household spending respectively.
There was a dramatic increase in the percentage of money expanding on computers between 1966 and 1996, rising from 1% to 10%. The similar phenomenon happened on restaurants costs, increasing to 14% in 1996. Nevertheless, the 30 years period saw a decrease of 5% in the books expense.
