The pie charts provide information regarding the labour force in three selected sectors in two towns in the years of 1960 and 2010.
In 1960, manufacturing-related jobs attracted the highest proportion of workers in both places, followed by sales and service. In particular, 70% of the town A's workforce worked in manufacturing sector, compared to only 41% in the town B. While sales and service in the former were accounted for around 29.5% each, those figures in the latter were recorded at only 20% and 10% respectively.
After five decades, 64% of the labour force in town A worked as service staffs, more than double its 1960 proportion. Conversely, the other two sectors in this site had seen considerable declines by almost half by 2010, recorded at around 18%. Manufacturing had remained its leading position in town B despite a sharp drop by nearly 20%, compared to slight increases in the figures for the local sales and service sectors, reaching 25% and 22% respectively.
Overall, manufacturing workers saw the highest proportion in both places in 1960; however, it had observed a significant decrease and lost its first rank in town A by the end of the period surveyed.
