The charts show the percentage of water used for different purposes in 6 areas of the world.
The charts summarize information about the proportion of different water using reasons in some developed and developing regions of the world.
Overall, developed areas mainly use water for industrial purpose, while agricultural use is the primary intention of using water in developing areas.
In industrialized regions, which includes North America and Europe, people use no less than 48% and 53% of water for industries, accounting for the largest part respectively. On the water hand, watering crops take up around 39% in North America and 32% in Europe out of the total amount of water used. For household purpose, only 13% of water is used in North America whereas the ratio is 15% in Europe.
A wholly different pattern occurs with developing areas, as they mostly use water for farming purpose instead of industrial, compared to North America and Europe. The percentage of water used is significant, which accounts for 71% in South America, 84% in Africa, 88% in Central Asia, and 81% in South East Asia. Industrial use is not favored as it only takes up 7% in Asia, 9% in Africa and 19% in South America. Finally, for domestic reason, 10% of the total water amount is used in South America, 7% in Africa, 5% in Central Asia, and 12% in South East Asia.
