The components of GDP in the UK from 1992 to 2000.
The bar graph illustrates the contribution of IT and Service industry to the Gross Domestic Product of the UK between the years 1992 and 2000 measured as a percentage of the overall GDP.
Overall, the contribution made by IT industry had always been higher than its counterpart Service industry. Furthermore, IT industry followed a dramatic upward trend over the years and ended up being almost double the contribution made by Service industry. However, in Service there was a rather gradual upward trend.
In 1992, IT industry’s contribution to the UK’s GDP was just above 6%. It rose a little about 2% in the subsequent two years only to drop just below 8% in 1996. But in the next two years it accelerated rather quickly and increased by almost two-third. This increasing trend continued till 2000 where the overall contribution by IT industry was almost three folds to its initial value.
Regarding the Service industry, it’s initial contribution to the British GDP was exactly 4%. There was an increase of about 50% in contribution from 1992 to 1994, after which there was a steady growth in the Service industry about 0.5 % every year. It accounted nearly 8% to the overall GDP of Britain in 2000.
