Essay topics:

the consumption of meat in the US per capita by species

The line graph compared four categories in terms of meat consumed per capita in the US between 1955 and 2006.
It is clear that there were significant changes in all kinds of meat apart from turkey. It is also noticeable that beef was the most popular meat throughout the period shown, while the lowest figures on the graph were turkey.
Over the following 20 years from 1955 to 1976, the consumption of beef increased considerably by 10 pounds. Similarly, the figure for broilers also witnessed a growth to about 20%. During the same period, the number of pork consumed fluctuated between 50 and 55 pounds, whereas that of turkey remained virtually unchanged at roughly 9 pounds.
From 1976 to 2006, beef consumption decreased remarkably to about 62 pounds after jumping to a peak of over 70 pounds. At the same time, the figure for broilers underwent a quick climb of about 50 pounds. By contrast, there were no substantial changes in the number of pork and turkey consumed per capita in the US.
