The diagram below shows the amount of pork chicken and beef consumed in the US between 1960 and 2003 Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant

The line chart illustrates changes in meat consumption patterns in the United States between 1960 and 2003 for three different types of meat: pork, chicken, and beef.

Overall, we can see that while beef was the most popular type of meat during the first three decades, chicken ultimately surpassed both pork and beef as the preferred type of meat. In particular, chicken consumption increased steadily from 1960 to about 1985, at which point it surpassed beef consumption. Pork consumption remained relatively stable throughout the period, with only a slight decline in the 1970s and 1980s.

In more detail, beef consumption started at around 40 pounds per person in 1960, peaked at just under 90 pounds in 1975, and then began a gradual decline to around 60 pounds by 2003. Pork consumption experienced a small decline from around 50 pounds in the early 1960s to around 40 pounds in the mid-1970s, and remained relatively steady thereafter. Chicken consumption was the lowest of the three meats in 1960 at around 25 pounds per person, but grew steadily over the next several decades, surpassing beef consumption in the mid-1980s and reaching almost 85 pounds per person by 2003.

In conclusion, the line chart shows that chicken consumption in the United States has grown rapidly over the past several decades and now exceeds that of both pork and beef. While beef consumption was the most popular during the first three decades, it has since declined and been overtaken by chicken. Pork consumption has remained relatively steady throughout the period.
