The diagram below shows how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects up-to-the-minute information on the weather in order to produce reliable forecasts.
The picture illustrates the process of collection weather information of Autralian Bureau of Meteorology to make forecasts.
Overall, it is clear that there are 4 distinct stages in the process, from the initial collection of information about the weather to the eventual production of broadcast to the public.
At the first and second stages of the process, the information is collected and analysed from 3 various sources: satellite, radar and drifting buoy. Firstly, incoming information from satellite is picked and presented for analysis as a satellite photo. Secondly, information can be received by radar and presented on a radar screen or synoptic chart. Finally, incoming information is passed by drifting buoy and analysed from a synoptic chart.
Looking at the third stage of this process, this amount of data tranfer into the computer which prepares the broadcast. Eventually, this information is broadcasted throughout 3 devices: TV newsreader, radio and recorded announcement.
