The diagram illustrates the working of a Hydroelectric power station to generate electricity. It shows the different components indicating the process of producing the electricity from a Dam.
The main principle by which the electricity is made is through the flow of water. The Power station is designed to allow the water to flow through multiple levels of equipment which in turn helps produce the electricity and send it to the National grid.
The Power Station is built on a river in which the water is flowing naturally. The largest part of the entire station is the Dam which stores the water and then channels it towards the turbines in the power station during the day before reaching a lower level reservoir. This results in turbines rotating which are in turn connected to a generator where the electricity is produced. The electricity generated is then connected to the National grid through the Power lines. During the night, the water from the lower level reservoir is pumped back through the reversible turbines.
The Hydroelectric power station works full time but the water flows in the opposite directions during the day and night.
