The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart illustrates the process of the generation of electricity in a hydroelectric power plant.

Overall, there are two main stages in the process, beginning with water coming to the high-level reservoir from a river and ending with electricity being transported to the national grid.

In the first stage of generating electricity during the day, water from a river is stored in a high-level reservoir. The dam, which stands between the reservoir and the entrance to a pipeline leading to the power station, is open so that water can flow to the power station. Subsequently, the reversible turbines located at the bottom of the station are activated by the force of water, and thus set the generator at the top running. Electricity is therefore generated, transferred to the national grid through power lines, whereas water continues on its way to the low-level reservoir.

In the second stage happening during the night, water from the low-level reservoir is pumped back into the high-level one through the pipeline by the reversible turbines. The dam is closed so that water is blocked in the high-level reservoir, ready for another session the following day.
