The given diagram depicts the basic functioning of an energy-efficient building both in a warm and and cold environment. Overall, it can be said that the general principle of thermal efficiency is insulating the house in order to avoid the eat to enter during the summer and to come out during the colder days.
Starting with the former, the key part of the system is the reflective material used to build a roof capable to reflect the sunbeams and therefore to avoid the penetration of the of the heat inside the house which is protected even from the ground, because the floor is below the ground level.
The last feature is also important during the winter,when the temperatures drop down: an interred floor is capable to retain the heat generated inside the building and this effect is boosted by the triple-glazed window that allows more warmth and heat to come inside and to not sniff out, this greenhouse effect is corroborated by the insulating walls, which are constructed using special materials that do not allow the heat to go out.
