The charts below show the levels of participation in education and science in developing and industrialised countries in 1980 and 1990.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

The given bar charts depict three different socio-economic indicators, namely the average years of education, the number of scientists and technicians every 1000 inhabitants and the spending on research and development, in wealthy and poorer countries, during a 10-years period starting since 1980 onwards.

Overall, it can be said that the developed countries performed better in all the categories under examination, in fact all indicators raised roughly around the 30% on average, although the non industrialized countries experienced an increase as well. Speaking about the years of schooling, the richest countries saw a 10% increase, almost the same of the under-development countries; despite the raise of the schooling period, the ratio between the scientific workforce and the population slightly raised from 10 to 20 in the developing countries, while the same category almost doubled from 40 to 70 every thousands residents in the "first world". To sum up, in both wealthy and poorer areas, these two indicators increased even if at a very different rate.

Such a trend is not followed as regard to the expenditures in research and development in the less developed nations, which experienced a decrease around 25% in the decade from 1980 to 1990. On the contrary, the developed nations did not deviate from the tendency described above, seeing the income spent in this crucial category boosting from 150 to slighty less than 350.
