The diagram below shows the water cycle which is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth.
The picture illustrates the process water from the ocean to the air to the ground during the natural process shown as the water cycle.
There are three main stages shown. Water from the ocean evaporates, fails as rain and return to the ocean again.
At the first stage, nearly 80% of total water vapour in the air comes from the ocean. Heat from the sun makes water evaporate then water condenses to form cloud. Afterwards, water falls to the ground, labelled “precipitation”, as form of snow or rain.
At the third stage, water follows several paths. Some of it is fell into lakes or some runs back into the ocean via “surface
runoff”. Otherwise some is filtered through ground until meeting the impervious layer of the earth to run to the ocean. Salt water intrusion is shown to take place right before groundwater meet the ocean and complete the process.
