The diagram below shows the water cycle, which is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram illustrates how water continuously circulates on, above and below the surface of the Earth.
Overall, this process includes four main stages, beginning with evaporating to form clouds and ending with return of water to seas and starting a new circulation.
At the beginning of the process, evaporation of water due to sunlight brings about generating clouds of condensing water vapour, in which the ocean accounts for about 80% of total water vapour in air. In the next stage, after clouds accumulate a certain dense vapour level, they precipitate vapour into water falling to the ground as rain or snow.
Subsequently, a partial amount of water after rain becomes the surface run-off, which is absorbed into the groundwater. The process continues with movement of the stream of groundwater through the impervious layer towards rivers. At the last step, the groundwater is intruded by salt water at the intersection of rivers with the ocean before pouring into the ocean to start a similar circle.
