The diagram illustrates the different parts of a neuron and the way in which it runs.

Overall, there are six major components of a neuron shown, from the cell body from the left to the terminal buttons on the right.

As we can see from the diagram, the cell body or soma is surrounded by the dendrites, which structure looks like branches of a tree and become thinner towards the end. These dendrites take the responsibility of connecting with other neurons and receiving messages from other cells.

One of the branches, instead of having dendrites, is called an axon passing messages away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands. Axon is covered by myelin sheath which helps speed neutral impulses. The working process combines between axon and myelin sheath shown in a diagram called the action potential. Which, the electrical signal travels down to the end of the terminal buttons which branch out from the axon. These terminal buttons, finally, enable the neuron to form junctions with other cells.
