Essay topics:

The graph below shows the percentage of Australian exports to 4 countries from 1990 to 2012. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparison where relevant.

The graph compares the proportion of goods exported by Australia to Japan, the USA, China and India between 1990 and 2012.

Overall, it is clear that before 2005, Japan accounted for the highest proportion of Australian exports. However, exports to China overcame exports to Japan after 2005.

In 1990, exports to Japan took up 27% of the total export, this figure was over double the figure for Australian exports to the USA. By contrast, exports to China and India made up about 2% and 1% respectively. However, in 1995, the percentage of Australian exports to Japan fell to 20% and exports to the USA decreased to around 9% while the figures for China and India rose slightly.

It is also noticeable that Japan saw a gradual decline in the percentage of exports for the rest of the period, which end at around 18% in 2012. From 1995 to 2012, the US export market fluctuated, but the trend tended to fall and hit a low of 6% in 2010. Although exports to India also fluctuated, these increased and finished at 6% at the end of the period. There was a dramatic change in the growth of the Chinese export market, crossing over Japan at a figure of 19% in 2005 and reaching a peak at 30% in 2012.
