The diagram illustrates the formation of different types of tea by processing tea leaves.
The process mainly consists of four steps but each tea goes through some specific technique to achieve its unique type.
To begin, the first three steps are same and include growing leaves, plucking and then withering them. Similarly, all the tea types are oven dried as part of their final manufacturing process. While white tea is produced without any additional step, other teas need some more technical processing.
It can be seen that steaming and then rolling of leaves is done in case of green tea, however, Oolong and large leaf black tea are produced without steaming. Furthermore, Oolong tea is slightly fermented before the process of oven drying whilst large and small leaf black tea are fully fermented. However, unlike all others, for small leaf black tea, leaves goes through crushing process before they can be fermented and oven dried.
