Overall, cars still gained enormous popularity in Edmonton despite the heavy dependence on alternative means of transportation. The main reason for using car was commuting to work.
It is clear that car accounted for the most popular vehicles, at 45%, which was nearly five times as much as the figure for the least proportion. The second most used method of transport was light rail transit, standing at 35%. In contrast, although people in Edmonton made good use of public transport, bus and taxi made up only 10%, the same proportion for the rest.
On the other hand, people used car mainly due to commuting to work, 55%, and business, 45%, and taking children to school, 40%. In contrast, only 15% used car for shopping and the same proportion can be seen in leisure activities.
