The two diagrams indicate the steps in the growth of the silkworm and the procedures of silk cloth production. Overall, the life cycle of the silkworm consists of 4 stages and the production of silk cloth is not too complicated.
The first diagram is about the life cycle of the silkworm. First, moths lay eggs on mulberry leaves, and after 10 days, silkworm larvae are born. They consume mulberry leaves for nutrition, and 4 to 6 weeks later, they begin to emit silk threads. Then, these threads altogether form cocoons for the moth grubs in about 3 to 8 days, and after 16 days in the cocoons, like other caterpillars, silkworm larvae become moths.
The second diagram shows the technique of producing silk cloth. First, the cocoons are selected to ensure the best silk quality. After that, all the chosen cocoons are boiled in water. Then, the cocoons are unwound to 300-900 meters threads, and they are twisted together to increase endurance, stability and quality. The twisted threads are weaved together to make cloth, and either the piece of cloth or the threads itself can be died in order to produce clothing with different colors.
