The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
The diagrams illustrate the milestones of salmon life, from birth to maturity.
Overall, there are three main stages in the cycle of salmon fish. Salmon spend time in their lives in three district locations, moving from upper river to lower rivers to open sea and then return back.
Salmon begins their lives in upper river where adult fishes lay their eggs in small tone hidden among the reeds. After approximately five or six months, eggs emerge to baby salmon, called "fry". These fries measure between three and eight centimetres in length. Then, they spend the next stage in lower river where has fast following and stay there about four years, still they grow to smolt. When becoming the smolt, their length reach from twelve to fifteen centimetres.
Finally stage, smolt fishes migrate to open sea and live there until they become adult fish, called "salmon". This stage takes about five years of salmon's life. After this period, the full growth salmon travel back to upper river in order to reproduct and lay their eggs. Then, a new cycle begins.
