The diagram illustrates two methods for irrigating.
In the first one is a swing basket. In this way, the workforce is human and two men try to bring water up to irrigation channel from a 1-2 meters deep hole by using fore ropes that have been tied around a basket made of bamboo or leather. Whereas, rope and bucket method, shows in the second picture, a cow has been used as the mover. It contains of a tall rope which moves around two pulleys and brings water up by a bucket to irrigation channels.
It seems that the second one is more useful because raising water from greater depth and a cow walk on slope to help it not to tired soon but in the first method pushing water by man is not safe and they will be tired after a while.
In addition, there is no justification for using man as lifter. In the long time, it has clear drawbacks for them. so the second one is better not only more practical but also more logical.
Overall, both methods are traditional efforts of collecting water; however the second one is more useful.
