The line graph illustrates the effect of two different kinds of sugar including fruit sugar and cane sugar as well as honey on tooth.
It can be seen clearly that eating cane can produce the highest acid level among three sweet foods, leading to the maximum possibility of tooth decay, whereas eating honey is unlikely to have tooth decay.
The graph shows the levels of acid are generated in mouth after sweets are consumed. The higher level of acid is demonstrated by the lower ph value and there will be occurrence of tooth decay when the ph goes below 5.5. At the moment when sugar and honey are eaten, the acid levels are the lowest, at ph 7. After 5 minutes, the ph level for cane sugar increases to 3.5, which is the highest compared to the other 2 sweets and it is not until after 40 minutes, the figure returns to its initial level at ph 7.
The change trends of honey and fruit sugar are similar to that of cane sugar. However, a slight difference is that from 5 minutes to 10 minutes, the acidity of honey remains the same, at ph 4.8
