Overall, heating and water heating contribute to the large proportion of energy utilised and greenhouse gas emissions produced, while the lighting and cooling are responsible for the smallest share.
The most common energy sources used in australian household is heating and water heating. The former contributes to precisely 42% of total energy consumption and the latter is observed just below a third. Following which, 7% of energy is spent on refrigeration and two remaining categories (lighting and cooling) make up 6% in total (4% and 2% respectively ). Besides, other appliances formed less than a fifth of the total energy consumed.
The biggest percentage of gas emission is produced by water heating (32%), followed by heating and refrigeration contributing to almost a half of water heating. Cooling and lighting account for the lowest proportion of greenhouse gas emission (3% and 8% each), while other appliances form the remaining share.
