The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use

There are two pie-charts shown. First of which, gives information about the proportion of energy used by an Australian for several aspects of day-to-day lives like: heating, water heating, refrigeration, cooling, lighting and other appliances. Second of which, illustrates the percentage of the greenhouse gas released due to energy consumption by heating, water heating, refrigeration, cooling, lighting and other appliances.

Overall, we can observe that Australians mostly consume their energy through heating and water heating. On the contrary the main proponents of greenhouse gas emission aren't heating and water heating, it is water heating and other appliances.

First of all, an average Australian consumes 42 percent of the total household energy for heating purposes, closely followed by water heating, amounting to 30 percent. Energy use by other meidums are quite small compared to the 72 percent covered by heating and water heating. Regrigeration uses one-seventh of the total energy used, lighting and cooling accounts for a mere 2% and 4% respectively. Lastly, other appliances use one by fifeteenth poportion of the total energy.

The major factors, driving greenhouse gas release into the environment are water heating and other appliances. They take up 32% and 28% respectively of the total amount. Refrigetation and heating also are a major proponent for greenhouse gas emission as they account for 15% and 14% of the total gas released into the atmosphere, followed by lighting which releases 8% and cooling which emits 3% of the overall greenhouse gas present in the air.
