Government should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You may spend more than an hour on a 20-minutes-driving distance each morning, only because of the heavy traffic. Since cars have become the most popular transport, it brings people so much convenience. However, the increasing numbers of cars put over-burdened pressure on road and the traffic problem is sometime a disaster to everybody. I think government should invest in railways to improve public transport to release the road pressure.
Railway transports include train, metro and light-rail train. Compared to car, train is so environment-friendly. Some modern trains use electricity as driving energy and produce H2 and H2O. If more trains replace cars, it will reduce carbon dioxide emission and alleviate the global warming problem. Another advantage of railway transport is that it makes people travel more efficient. A train could carry hundreds people in one trip without stopping by traffic light or congestion. If more people take trains as daily transport, cars on road will decrease and vehicle in emergency, such as ambulance, could drive on road without disturb. Furthermore, according to statistic, railway transport is the safest way to travel. The best way to avoid a car accident is not travelling by car.
The advantages of railway transport are apparent, why are there many people make driving cars as their first choice when they travel? It may caused by lack of railway investment and construction. Not all areas are easily accessible to train station or metro station, people in these areas have no other option than cars. Or the facility in railway transport can’t meet people’s expectation and demand, for example, no sanitary in stations.
To sum up, government should put more investment in railway, so that more people would travel by this optimal way.
