Thanks to the evolution of transportation, human lives nowadays have been improved significantly to the most convenient and liveable one than ever before. However, there is a controversial question that has been long discussed by citizens whether the government should make investments in improving railways or roads. From my point of view, I believe that the authorities should make efforts in order to meet the needs of both users.
On the one hand, there is no doubt about the benefits of trains since they were first invented. Trains have been used as a suitable and safe way to deliver products and passengers to different parts of a country. Japan could be concrete evidence for these facts. Regarded as one of the nations that have the most modern facilities for railways such as the Shinkanshen Subway, people hardly see traffic jams packed with private vehicles and trucks in Japan since those transportations have been replaced by trains and subways.
However, On the other hand, trains might not become the ideal means of transport when transferring things domestically, especially in some developing countries or the mountainous areas. Moreover, roads can directly reach any place you want, such as houses, shopping centres, and hospitals, whereas trains could only carry people from one station to another. Therefore, the users could be more independent on the desired destinations and did not have to walk far distances.
To conclude, it can be clearly seen that both roads and railways are complementary methods for convenient and easy travelling. I do recommend that the government set an organized plan to improve both means of transport.
