The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
While the table compares water consumption per person in Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2000, the line chart shows global water used by three different sectors (km3) between 1900 and 2000.
Overall, the largest number of worldwide water was used for agriculture in 100 years. Besides, Brazil used more the amount of water than the Congo.
From 1900 to 1950, while the global water industrial and domestic use remained below 200km3, the water used for agriculture increased quickly from 500km3 to more than four times the amount of other sectors combined. In the last 50 years, water agriculture using continuously rose to reach a peak of 3000km3. During this time, the international water industrial and domestic use also went rapidly from nearly 200, 100km3 (1950) to around 1200 and 500km3 (2000), respectively.
In 2000, the population of Brazil and Congo were 176 and 5.2 million respectively. The water used per person in Brazil was 359m3 which was higher 40 times than in Congo, because of Brazil’s irrigated land was larger 265 times.
