In the United Kingdom, there was a steady forty-year decline without increase in the amount of carbon dioxide per person emitted. Conversely, both Italy and Portugal showed a regular growth with no decrease for a period of 40 years. However, Italy saw a steeper initial rise while Portugal grow faster from 1987 to 1997. Sweden's statistic of average carbon dioxide emissions per head increased slightly for the first ten years. The number then dropped dramatically and eventually ended up at quite a bit lower than it was in 2005.
According to the chart, the average carbon dioxide emissions per head in the United Kingdom and Sweden ended at a number below that level in 1967, while it was higher in Italy and Portugal. Among the four countries, Sweden and Portugal are the special ones which have the same finished rate.
