The graph presents detailed information about average individual CO2 emissions for UK, Sweden, Italy and Portugal citizens over the period 1967- 2007. On average UK generated most CO2 consistently among all the reported countries, while Portugal showed the smallest figure.
Before 1977, three out of the four countries kept a drastic increasing rate for average CO2 generation. Sweden, on the other hand, stood still at the same level until 1977, when it started a steady drop till the end of the sample period, 2007. Since 1997, the emissions declined sharply for Sweden with a much faster rate compared with UK. By the end of 2007, CO2 emissions of Sweden crossed with the lowest in graph, Portugal.
During the entire sample period, CO2 emission peaked at the beginning for the UK with 11metric tonnes. Sweden hits the high in 1978, slightly less than the UK at the same time. In contrast, Italy and Portugal started from 4.2 and 1, reach the top average CO2 emissions at the end with 7.8 and 5 respectively.
To summarize, The UK and Sweden see a trend of average CO2 emission steady declining, while Italy and Portugal rise gradually.
