The line graph compares the mean monthly wage of Japanese and the prices of non-color, and colour TV over a period of 20 years.
It is noticeable that the average salary of Japanese every month went up significantly, whereas the two types of TV prices experienced a dramatic plunge between 1953 and 1973. Moreover, the cost of black and white and colour TV was much higher than the monthly salary of Japanese during 1953 to 1963.
In 1953, the price of black and white TV was sold for 100 thousand yen, which was the highest figure. However, that of non-colour TV decreased steadily over 15 years, from 100 thousand yen to 40 thousand yen. Subsequently, the price of this type of TV continued to fall gradually at around 38 thousand yen in 1973, which was smaller than
that of colour TV, at about 90 thousand.
At the begining of period, Japanese people only earned approximately 30 thousand yen once a month. This number continued to increase rapidly by 150 thousand yen from 1953 to 1973, which overtook the price of color TV in 1968, In 1973, the mean income of Japanese in one month was at 180 thousand yen, which was higher than the cost of both types of TV, at about 38 thousand yen and 90 thousand yen respectively.
