Essay topics:

The graph below shows the consumption of fish and different kinds of meat in a European country between 1979 and 2004.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph compares the amount of fish, lamb, beef and chicken consumed in a European country from 1979 to 2004.

Over the period, it is obvious that the purchase of beef, lamb and fish fell steadily, despite fluctuations while the consumption of chicken rose significantly. Fish was likely to be least common in this European country and fish consumption was consistently below other meat consumption.

In 1979, the average amount of beef consumed by a person in a week was highest, at approximately 220 grams, in comparison with that of chicken and lamb, at around 150 grams. In the next 10 years, the weekly purchase of chicken per person rose dramatically and in 1989, chicken overtook beef as the main source of meat in this European nation. By contrast, the fish consumption was just over 50 grams per person per week and remained at this level until the end of the period shown.

From 1989 to 2004, the weekly chicken amount used by a person climbed considerably, from around 200 grams to 250 grams. Meanwhile, the amount of beef purchased by a person dropped suddenly, from around 200 grams per week to just over 100 grams per week. Lamb consumed by a person in a week also showed a similar trend with beef, slipped to approximately 50 grams in 2004.
