The graph below shows the demand for electricity in England during typical days in winter and summer. The pie chart shows how electricity is used in an average English home.
The line graph compares the requirements of electricity units in England for an average day in winter and summer whereas, the proportion of electricity that is utilized in English homes is elucidated by the pie-chart.
Overall, the electricity demand is significantly higher in winter than in summer with the maximum usage is observed at 21:00 in both seasons. Interestingly, the lion's share of electricity is being used for heating purposes.
To commence with, energy consumption in winter is almost double throughout the day as compared to summer. In the former season, the demand initiates from 35000 units while the latter half of it (around 17000). With a few fluctuations observed in winter, a noticeable drop can be seen at 6 in the morning which drops to 30000 units and the peak is at night at around 9 o'clock. Summer's fluctuations are much negligible with two highest points at 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM but the demand does not exceed more than 20000 units.
Secondly, amongst the four categories, a mammoth share of electricity is utilized for heating rooms and water accounting for over half of the total ( 52.5). Two other areas: lighting, TV, Radio and Vacuum cleaner, food mixer, electricity tools consumed the least energy and both of them are having an equal proportion of 15% each. Lastly, the energy needed for ovens, kettle and washing machine is 2.5% higher than the above figures.
