The graph below shows the number of doctors (per 1000 people) in Cuba and US from 1975 to 2015
The line graph compares two countries (Cuba and The US) in terms of the rate of physicians per 1000 inhabitants over a 40-year period starting from 1975.
Overall, the physician density of Cuba experienced a dramatic increase over the period in question while that of the US witnessed a slight rise. The rate of physicians of Cuba was generally higher than the US, except for the first few years of the period.
In 1975, one out of 1000 people in Cuba was medical doctor, which was a bit lower than rate of doctors in the US (around 1.2). Cuban figure rose slightly to overtake that of the US seven years later before climbing dramatically to below 8 in the final year.
In contrast, the figure for the US increased marginally from the beginning of the period to below 3 in 2005 and then dropped to approximately 2.5 in 2010. In the last five years, it rose slightly, reaching almost 2.7 in 2015.
