It is clear that the trend of this item is likely to increase in each country in the examined period. Remarkably, Japan is subject to overall volatility in its elderly proportion.
In 1940, standing at 9% of Americans was aged 65 and over which were higher than 7% of Swedish people and 5% of Japanese. Both figures for the USA and Sweden jumped further to 1980, at 15% and 14% respectively, while, the proportion of Japanese elderly people still was not over 5% until the 2000s.
However, the percentage of elderly people in Japan is about to rise into the foreseeable future. To be specific, the proportion of this category in Japan will increase by 5% to 10% during 20 years and it will receive appreciable acceleration to over 25% in the final year, while the figure for Sweden and USA will be slightly lower, at about 25% and 23% respectively.
