The graph below shows the quantities of goods transport in the UK between 1974 to 2002 by four different modes of transport.
The chart reveals changes in the amount of good delivered by four different means of transport namely road, water, rail and pipeline in the UK from 1974 to 2002. Overall, all categories witnessed an upward trend, among which road was used the most for goods during the time surveyed.
The figure for road always possessed the highest rate, rising from about 70 in the first year to a peak of just under 100 million tonnes in the last year. By contrast, that for the pipeline was used the least among all, which its value experienced a twofold increase from roughly 2 in 1974 to the highest point at 20 million tonnes after 28-year-period. Regarding the two remaining categories, although being a more popular way to deliver goods in the first year, the figure for rail stood at its initial point at 40 million tonnes in 2002 after witnessing a marginal fluctuation. Meanwhile, the water showed a different pattern with its figure reaching a peak at approximately 65 million tonnes in the last year.
