The line graph provides information about the different mode of goods transportation and the quantity of products transported in the UK, from 1974 to 2002.
The majority of goods were transported using the road, while the pipeline was the least used mode of transport.
According to the graph, about 70 million tonnes of various goods were transported using the road transportation system in 1974. In the same year, the second largest amount of goods, about 40 million tonnes, were transported using the rail lines and the water mode. Only 5 million tonnes were transported with the pipeline way at beginning of period.
Over the years, the amount of goods transported increased with some fluctuation. The use of water transportation system was increase significantly between 1978 and 1982, while the road mode, which in 2002 was used for about 100 million tonnes of goods, remained the most used for products transportation. The water lines contributed with an average of 60 million tonnes of goods transported during all period, with a gradually increase in 2002. The rail ways, after a steadily decline between 1978 and just before 1986, had a fluctuating trend, but the quantity of goods transported by this mode remained almost same at 1974. Finally, the use of pipeline ways increased to over million in 2002, compare about 5 million in 1974.
