The line chart provides information about the proportion of males and females who smoked in Someland during the period of 40 years from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, it can be clearly seen from the graph that the number of male smokers was higher than that of females. Besides, the rate of men who smoked had a decline while the figure for women went up throughout the period.
In 1960, six in ten men in Someland consumed tobacco and this rate decreased steadily by just below 20% in 1990. The number dropped sharply to around 28% in 1995 and the figure at the end of the period was nearly 22%.
On the other hand, the percentage of female smokers in 1960 was about six times as low as that of males was. In 1960, almost 10% of women in Someland consumed tobacco and this rate went up gradually to nearly 20% in 1970. Five years later, the proportion reached a peak at well about 30% and then the rate dropped consistently to 20% in 2000.
