The line graph gives information about how the relative prices for 3 types of food had changed from 1978 to 2009 and the trend for the average consumer pricing during the same period.
Overall, it is evident that over the 31-year period, prices for 3 types of food surveyed all showed an upward trend, albeit with varying degrees. It is also readily apparent that the most prominent rise was seen in fruits and vegetables sector, while carbonated drinks had the least changes in prices, with figures lower than the average consumer pricing for all of the timeframe.
In 1979, all the lines on the graph had the same starting figure of roughly 50. Over the period, the consumer pricing rose steadily to the mark 200, four times higher than its starting figure. Carbonated drinks generally matched this rising trend although less significant, remaining the only type of food whose relative price had always been lower than the consumer pricing.
In sheer contrast, sugar and sweets and fruits and vegetables had surpassed the average consumer pricing since around 1980. The latter experienced more considerable climb than the former, ending the period at a slightly higher figure than the former, which was 300 at the same time. Both of these types of food had many fluctuations in their relative prices.
