Given are two maps delineating the differences of usual Japanese and American office. It is perceptible that Japanese’s workspace is shared among managers and employees, while the contrast is true for American’s in which individualism is highly appreciated.
When it comes to the Japanese office, it is divided into two symmetrical sides and the department manager desk is located in the top north with a huge window right behind. There are two sets of a rectangular table with 3 chairs on each side connected with section manager desks so as to be conducive to discussing jobs.
Regarding the American office, it is seperated into three zones with two windows on each side of the room. Meanwhile the western area is devoted to office facilities such as printer and copier along with a storage and two conference rooms where meetings could be hosted, the eastern one is where section and department managers work. Strikingly, the middle space is occupied by staff who work separately in their own L-shaped desks.
