The graph below shows UK acid rain emissions, measured in millions of tones, from four different sectors between 1990 and 2007.
The line graph compares the levels of acid rain emissions produced by four main sectors namely transportation, domestic, energy supply, and other industries, in the UK form 1990 to 2007.
Overall, it is evident that over the period as a whole the levels of produced emissions resulted in acid rain decreased considerably for all sectors, except for the sector of transport and communication fluctuated.
While acid rain emissions from the energy supply (electricity, gas, and water) stood at 3.4 millions of tones in 1991, which was the highest rate, followed by other industries sector with 2.1 million tones, the emissions produced by domestic and transportation system were the lowest ones and roughly similar at 0.6 and 0.7, respectively. However, these trends changed significantly at the end of the period (2007) when other industries sector took the first place with the emissions producing at 1.3 million tones, followed by the sector of transportation at the same rate as the starting level. The greatest decline in acid rain emissions belonged to the energy supply by a 2.8 million tone drop. There was also a slight fall in the domestic sector, reaching 0.3 in 2007.
Regarding the communication system sector, the trend was a small fluctuation over the 16-year period. However, after experiencing two years of stability, the production of rain acid emissions by other industries sector decreased gradually, reaching 1.3 in 2007. Similarly, the domestic sector had almost the same trend, declining slightly to 0.3. Finally, there was a significant drop in emissions produced by the energy sector, reaching 0.5 in 2007.
