This line chart illustrates the employment rates within three categories, namely, public, private and self-employed, in the UK in the first decade of the 21 century.

Overall, both the public and self-employed sectors had grown steadily, but the private one had declined continuously over the given period. The private sector, the previous largest lost its market gradually, while the public and the self-employed sectors were under a healthy circumstance of development and surpassed the former eventually.

Looking at the figure for the private sector, it had the highest employment rate with the percentage of 48 in 2000, nevertheless, it started declining in the next decade and eventually dropped to 20% in 2010.

On the contrary, th public sector, the second highest one back in 2000 with a market share of 38%, soared to 47% in 2004 by having a stable development in the first three years. Subsequently, it enjoyed a fluctuant growth in the following six years and eventually peaked with a market share of over 50% in 2010.

Similarly, the self-employed sector had experienced a stable growth within the ten years. It bypassed the private sector in 2008 with a market share of 28%, and then reached nearly 30% of employment in 2010.
