The given bar chart illustrates the changes of five age groups of Iceland under the 30-year time period from 1990 to 2020. Overall, the percentage of people aged 25-54 years old was higher than any other age groups, while the feature for the 15-24 age group was the lowest at the end of the given period.
First and foremost, there were over 30% of people aged 25-54 in Iceland in 1990. This data steadily increased overtime and reached the peak in 2020, with the ratio of nearly a half. Not following the same trend, the number of young Icelanders under 24 years old tended to decrease over the years. Starting from around. 20% in 1990, the proportion of people aged 15-24 dropped to approximately 10% in 2020. The same trend could be witnessed with the youngest group in Iceland when the percentage fell from nearly a quarter to 18% at the end.
However, the number of the elderly in Iceland had a marginal fluctuation through the period. People at the age of 55-64 accounted for nearly 13% in 1990 and slightly decreased to 10% in 2020. In these 30 years, the figure for people who were over 65 years old remained stable, which accounted for around one-ninth of the whole population in Iceland.
