The graph shows information about the number of people in Australia who use Chinese, Arabic, Italian and Greek as their first language

The chart illustrates how many people in Australia used Italian, Greek, Chinese, and Arabic as their first language.
Overall, the number of people whose native speech is Chinese and Arabic saw an increase, while the figures for Greek and Italian declined. In addition, Chinese was the most popular language after 25 years.
In 1986, Greek was most commonly used by about 230,000 Australians as their first language, followed by a slight decrease and a final drop to just under 200,000 people in 2011. Similar change, but to a lesser extent, can be seen in the figure for Italian, which was the second most popular in 1989 with 150,000 speakers. This figure continued to fall slightly to just over 100,000 people in 2006 and stayed unchanged until 2011.
Conversely, about more than 100,000 Australians used Chinese as their first language, after which it witnessed a significant rise to reach a peak at exactly 350000 people in 2011, compared to the rest with just hovering around 150000. Meanwhile, the figure for Arabic saw a similar change, which slightly rose from just 50,000 in 1986 to 100,000 people at the end of the period.
