Overall, it indicates that the percentage of people aged 65 and more has increased and it is predicted to rise until 2040 in all three countries.
At the beginning of the given period, only 5% of Japanese population had 65 or more years old, whereas for two other countries this figure was slightly higher about 7% for Sweden and 9% for the US. Sweden and the USA began a rising trend, with figures rising to nearly 15% in 1990. By contrast, Japan’s figure dropped to about 3% in 1960, stood at this level for about 25 years, before rising and reaching 5% in nearly 2000.
The percentage of elderly in Japan has risen to 7.5% since 2000 and predication show that this trend will continue until 2030, before occurring an increase of 17% in the last decade. this proportion in two others, which had similar trend since 1940, followed a different path of growth but both of them will rising and reaching nearly 20% in last year.
