The graph shows the rates of participation in three activities in a UK sports club between 1983 and 2003

The line graph compares the percentage of UK members in terms of 3 different sport clubs, namely swimming, team sports and gym activities in the period of 2 decades starting from 1983.
Overall, it can be seen that while the participation rates in team sports and gym had an upward trend from 1983 to 2003, the opposite tendency was true for the proportion of people taking part in swimming club.
In 1983, nearly 30% of the total people chose to become a member of sports requiring team spirit. This figure was fivefold than the rate of participation in gym activities, at approximately 7%. Over 20 years, people tended to pour into the two club mentioned above, resulting in the increase in the recorded data. There was a modest fluctuation in the proportion of team sports' members. The figure gradually went up to 38% in 1998 and then followed by a slight decline to only over 30%. In contrast, a significant growth was seen in the percentage of gym participants, from 7% in 2983, rising to 15% in the next 10 years, reaching a peak of 28% at the end of the period.
However, the period witnessed a sharp decrease in the figure of swimming group. Standing at the highest point at 50% in 1983, over a 2 decade period, the figure bottomed at 12%, which was also the lowest percentage compared to other club members.
