The given line chart illustrates the number of foreign students and domestic students applying for universities in Australia from 2001 to 2010.
Overall, it is clear that the total figure for exotic students enrolling at the universities showed a dramatic growth. Meanwhile, the number of commencing Australian students fluctuated throughout the period.
It can be seen from the chart that the quantity of overseas students in 2001 was only 20000, then it increased significantly and reached its peak at over 80000 in just 10 years. The same pattern can be seen for commencing students who lived abroad, however, the number was almost unchanged between 2009 and 2010. From 2001 to 2007, the total figure for local students applying for Australian universities experienced an upward trend, rising from 40000 to 6000, after which it stayed stable for the remaining years. By contrast, the number of students who started to learn in these universities remained low with a slight fluctuation
