the line graph below shows the oil production and consumption in china between 1982 and 2006

The data source illustrates how much oil was produced and consumed in China in the 24-year period from 1982 to 2006.

It is evident that both the production and consumption of oil increased during the period shown. Moreover, in the first half of the period, the amount of oil used was lower than produced, the opposite was true for the second one.

As can be seen from the graph, in 1982 there was no significant divergence in Chinese oil consumption and production, which both stood at 2 million barrels everyday. During the next 12 years, the number of oil barrels manufactured daily witnessed a dramatic increase of 1 million in the first 4 years and then reached a plateau for the next 8 years, while that used by people experienced the reverse phenomenon.

Looking at the graph in more details, not until the year of 1990 did the consumption and production of oil remain relatively equal at 3 million barrels. Since then, the gap between consumption and production was widen gradually because the pace of the former was more rapid than the latter. In the last year of the period, the production of this kind of fuel rose marginally, just below 3.5 million, whereas the amount in demand doubled that.
